Gayle Faulkner

Painting is the artists’ creative and insightful representation of the world.   Constant exploration of new vistas and “playing” with media has allowed me to step through a wondrous door of creativity, possibilities and growth.

By primarily using palette knives with multiple layers of acrylic paint, gels and modeling paste, my Textural Acrylic paintings are full of depth.  My goal is to create a world where the viewer can enter and be surrounded by color and texture.

I now am further exploring the 3D capability of my paintings by literally expanding the “boundaries” beyond the edge of the canvas.

For over 40 years, I have had an established career as a watercolor and mural artist.  My work has been included in and won awards at numerous exhibitions, gallery shows and juried art festivals. Works of art are in corporate and private collections around the world.

I attended William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri and earned a BA in Sociology.  I used this degree working with children in a variety of capacities.  One day, I decided that I wanted to be an artist and as is my norm, I jumped in with both feet.

At Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston Louisiana, I took Masters Level Art and Design courses for several years.  As a totally left sided academic, I was amazed and excited to have found a new part of my inner person.   Years of hard work, looking outside the box and the willingness “to put my self out there” has led to a very special awakening.

Becoming an artist is about dedication, determination and a love for what you are doing.  I think that it is important to never get complacent and to always be willing to try new things.  Technical skill is important but imagination and the willingness to play is what makes us better.

Art gives us all the opportunity to explore vistas and possibilities.  I feel very fortunate to have the ability to embrace something that I love.
