Betsy Nighswonger

I began oil painting at the age of 10 in summer adult oil painting classes. I have also worked through the years in acrylic and watercolor, ink and mixed media with oils my original true love.  I have only recently started showing public since retiring from a career in Occupational therapy.  I have shown my art in the local greater Kansas City area and also in western Washington state.

I am on a journey transitioning from realism to my real joy and finding excitement in  contemporary abstract and impressionistic influenced landscapes. I enjoy introducing unexpected color through free strokes and marks, use of large brushes and palette knives. I strive to leave the painting open enough for the viewer to interpret and add their own story.
