James Masters

James Masters is a Kansas City-based watercolor and mixed-media artist whose work is rooted in observation, lived experience, and spiritual curiosity. He is drawn to the quiet moments people often overlook, using painting as a way to slow down and pay attention to what is already present. Influenced by New Thought philosophy and a deep interest in perception, his work reflects an ongoing exploration of meaning, presence, and connection. He is an active member of Images Gallery in Kansas City.

About the WORK

I’m drawn to moments that carry feeling. Joy, grief, tension, or something harder to name but easy to recognize. I use light, color, and movement to capture the energy of those moments rather than just the image itself. Even when the subject is simple, I’m paying attention to how it feels to be there, in that exact second. My goal isn’t just to document what something looked like, but to hold onto what it was like to experience it. ~James Masters
